The Miami Heat Repeat

Last year when we moved to Miami, the Miami Heat were in the middle of an awesome run to the championship. It was fun to jump on the Miami bandwagon and get excited about the hometown team. Since then, we have really enjoyed watching people hate the Heat and people love the Heat. This year we had some friends over to watch Game 7 of the Championship and we had a blast.

We had cupcakes, excessive amounts of snacks and really good times. Luckily, Miami won and the town went crazy. Within a few minutes, we could hear the cars honking and people screaming. The news showed Downtown Miami and people were going crazy so we decided to go downtown and be one of those crazies. There was lots of photo-bombing and high-fiving and just straight fun. I love the friends we have here in Miami and I am so glad we could make these memories. Oh and Go Heat! #threepeat

If you look closely you can see TONS of people

Lebron.

The ladies celebrating :)

Excuse our black eyes, but it was so fun to run into Mr. Frank downtown. Had to get a crazy pic with the large head

Catch Up

Wow! The last month has just flown by! I cant believe it is already July 1st. Sometimes I wish I could grab time and make it sit still. The last month has been full of fun and friends. Derek finished his first year of medical school (YEAH!!). We are 1/4 of the way to Residency and I am so proud of the hard worker Derek is. Sometimes I cant believe that we have been in Miami for over a year and that our lives are so embedded here now. It seems like we still have a long time to go before we are done with medical school, but I know time is going to fly by (or at least I keep saying that to myself when I feel like we have forever to go).

Since Derek is on summer break, we have had more time to just relax and enjoy each other's company. Derek has been helping me with projects around the house and just got back from a trip to DC. Dustin and his family are moving from Washington state to Washington DC and Derek went up to help him unpack. I am so excited to have all the nieces on the East Coast, especially since Carrie is due in September with baby #3. We cant wait to meet her and I am hoping we can make a weekend trip to DC this fall to see the city and the girls.

We also celebrated the Miami Heat's win with friends (post to come), enjoyed the pool, watched too much TV, ate a lot of good food and genuinely relaxed. This week we are heading to Sanibel Island to spend the 4th with my family (Mike included!) and soak up some Florida sun. I wish that summer time was just reality and I didn't have to work and we could just hang out all the time together. I think they call that retirement, but I am ready for that now! Anyone else feel the same?

I hope everyone is having an awesome summer! More posts and pictures to come in the next few weeks :)

Has it really been 4 years?

May is a big month! On May 23rd Derek and I celebrated our 4th wedding anniversary. I cant believe we have been married for 4 years already... the time has flown by! It was great to sit at dinner and talk about all the things we have accomplished since we got married and our plans for the future. I couldn't be happier with the choice I made to marry Derek! I cant wait for many, many more years of happiness.

To celebrate we went to Ola, a boutique restaurant in South Beach. The food was TO DIE FOR.

We started with a lobster empanada and fish tacos

I got the snapper and Derek of course got the filet

We finished with a deconstructed key lime pie and a chocolate cigar and coffee ice cream

We had a perfect night together!

For our gifts to each other, I got Derek a "Date Ideas" jar. I made a list of 50 dates we could do together, ranging from free to expensive and hopefully over the next year we can do them all. I think this satisfied the indecisiveness Derek sometimes feels when we plan dates.

Derek sent me a beautiful bouquet of flowers to my work. They are gorgeous! The receptionist called me to the front of the office and made me walk them back myself. She said it's the best walk of shame I could do :) Derek also got me a massage that I promptly used and was completely relaxed.

All in all I think this was a perfect anniversary. I am excited to see what this next year has in store for us!

A Walk Through Little Havanna

I have been wanting to learn more about editing pictures so I found this cool app called Camera+. It's only 99 cents but it allows you to take pictures in the app with a better exposure and zoom and then edit the pictures in the app as well. It's nothing too fancy but I decided to give it a try. I read a little bit about how to take the best pictures and they said the key is good light. So Friday afternoon I took a stroll through the neighborhood by us called Little Havana. I love the architecture of the buildings and I love how there is a really interesting blend of cultures in the neighborhood. Below are some the pictures I took, all edited with Camera+. It was great exercise and a fun way to spend my afternoon off! Who wants to come visit now?
